I spent fifteen years inside banks — UBS, HSBC, Credit Suisse, Santander and Nordea — across business, technology and people management. Most of that time was spent close to credit: how it is priced, how it is governed, and what happens to it when the assumptions underneath stop holding.
I wrote a book on credit risk out of that, and I still speak on it. But the more useful thing banking gave me was a habit: reading a deal backwards, starting from how it breaks.
What I do now
I founded PrivateMarkets.pt, a buy-side investment platform for Portuguese real estate that never represents sellers. Parish-level valuation, condition scoring read off the photographs, neighbourhood risk built from open data, and a grade on every listing — the kind of note a bank would write before lending against it, written instead for the person buying.
Alongside it I develop. Gaia Senses Residence on Rua Cândido dos Reis in Vila Nova de Gaia is six small apartments in a narrow nineteenth-century plot, currently working its way through licensing.
